Party pics :)

Yesterday's party was great!! There are no photos of the lasagna because it was gone faster than you can say "yummy", but here we are

mixing strange cocktails

 playing wii,

enjoying chocolate fountain (or rather chocolate fondue),

 and playing singstar

(but we aren't really singstars, as you can tell from their faces).

Here you can see the cocktail bar. The notes on the cupboard are recipes. I had 5 of them, and those tasted great, but others weren't as lucky ;D

I loved seeing all of you again! Thanks for showing up even though it snowed like hell. Hope you got home without wrecking your cars.

Got wet today..

.. but at least it was snow and not rain. I had to walk home from the station in the town centre, but then I found a bus that spared me some metres. However, I didn't know which bus stop was next, and so I pushed the button at three stops without getting off and the driver got really mad at me. Whatever. I don't like bus drivers anyway. And now even less. I hope my shoes will by dry when I fly to England in.. four days :D!

Almost finished :)!

It's such a good feeling to print out a paper for the very first time!! 20 beautiful, nice-smelling pages. Now I'll let it rest in peace a few days and then revise it. Next big point: the translation II exam on Friday. I really don't know what to learn or how to practise.

We've started planning my farewell party. Funnily enough, I'm more excited than on other parties birthdays or New Year. Maybe it's because I'll have a farewell party only once in my life. Dunno. We're actually PLANNING and not just inviting people and then see what happens. Hope you don't forget to bring the cocktail stuff :)

PS. The German translation for this one is great! What are cocktail-slideshows??

Snowy greetings from Mosbach!

The last days I've spent with writing my paper (10 / 15 pages), worrying about Lucky (see picture) and watching awesome films. If you haven't already seen The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (Inofficial subtitle: The Legacy of Heath Ledger) in the cinema, GO!! I didn't understand a lot, but it's very gripping and fun and sad. Yesterday, we watched The Time Traveler's Wife on DVD, and the only word to describe this one is HEARTBREAKING (though they could have chosen better actors). As if I didn't have enough heartbreaking to come. Now, who wants to play "Find the cat"?? :)

Today we'll go say goodbye to my grandparents. And I want to show you where I'm actually going.

Wuha... 8 days to write a paper!

Right now I'm in in Heidelberg, in the midst of planning the paper for my "English Bible" seminar. My original plan was to write it in England because I thought they'd have more books on that topic, but yesterday I found out that they actually don't have ANY! Bloody hell!! Now I'm in a hurry and I guess I won't finish Lord of the Rings before our departure. Stuck right at the entrance of Mordor. Life is cruel.

Preliminaries

Hi everyone,

last night I couldn't sleep, and so I came up with the idea of blogging during my time in England. The main reasons are that I want to have a kind of diary to leaf through later on and that you see how I'm doing. And I think it's more interesting than emails or stuff, and it's really easy. It took two minutes to get this blog. I'll try to take photos of everything and post them here.

So, in the last few months there was loads of organisational stuff to do - many forms to fill in, many deadlines to keep. I was really afraid I'd be too confused to get through all this. But it seems like I made it - I even got a room. Yet there are some details I overlooked beforehand and only found out a few days ago. Here are some examples:

  • Guests mustn't stay overnight, and there are wardens in every flat to ensure they don't.
  • I have to pay the rent that I first thought to be really low WEEKLY, not MONTHLY, which kind of messes up my financial plans.
  • There are 70% international students in Guildford, so I'll probably rather refresh my Spanish and French than get a decent English accent.
  • We have to bring our own pillows, feather-beds, sheets, dishes and even our own cutlery :(!

12 days left. Michi and I are going fly to London Stansted early in the morning on the 2nd of February. Then we'll carry our suitcases through the entire city, take the train to Guildford (~ 40 minutes) and see where I'll spend the next five months of my life. Or rather, four and a half months. 136 days.
